Matte black glass absorbs light, sending out nothing but a flickering flame. As the candle burns down, the flame gets dimmer, until the etching on the glass is revealed in its entirety: a woman burning in a wreath of fire. Not a pleasing image, to be sure, but one that reminds us how we must always be on vigil to take action when enough is enough.
