If you’ve watched the news any time in the past ten years, you’ll know that berries have been declared a superfood — full of flavonoids and fiber, short on calories. They’re easy and delicious, but other than sprinkle them on yogurt or throw them in a pie, what do you DO with them? In The Berry Bible, Janie Hibler takes us on a fun culinary road trip (with some interesting and informational detours) through the world of berries.
Growing up in the American South, the only way to eat blackberries is right off the bush, all summer. Unfortunately, it’s a little boring for those who share our table today. The Berry Bible contains an assortment of recipes that vary by berry and course. This is not an advanced book; the results might be novel, but the recipe techniques aren’t. And there’s also a lot of other stuff about berries, like how to safely store the 5kg of blackberries we collected until we can use them up. An excellent book for cooks who aren’t afraid to experiment.

What a fantastic book, just looking at the cover makes my mouth water!

There are so many things that can be done with berries, but sooner or later you will want to branch out and that is where this book comes in. None of the recipes are too complicated, and none involve a whole lot of ingredients which will mean you have to traipse all over town to weird specialist shops. Most ingredients are ready and waiting in your cupboard!
